THE WHY

After years studying and working in the chiropractic and mental health fields - and with the various styles of yoga - I've learned how to heal my nervous system and transformed my wellbeing (more on About page) I now share all my experience and tools that worked for me, to help others do the same!

As a certified RYT, I hold a gentle, sacred and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore various stress relief techniques, based on the Polyvagal Theory.
The therapeutic benefits help support and balance holistic health and life stressors, especially mental health. It can help to restore and regulate where to output / input energy, starting at the root, the nervous system. While rooted in ancient tradition, I guide a modern style of yoga, Nervous System Titration sequences.
These flows incorporate somatic movements (meaning "of the body"), breathwork (pranayama) and various meditation techniques. We stimulate the vagus nerve, the adrenals, open the hips and chest, to relax the shoulders. Based on my background in chiropractic, over time, this can help bring the body back into alignment - aka can help with relieving shoulder tension, back pain, tight hips / hip flexors, facial tension and even balancing hormones.

This can help us access our stress mechanisms (typically known as fight vs flight, or depression vs anxiety) and our subconscious response to life stressors.

This allows students to connect deeper within themselves, their inner healer, and sense their way through poses, rather than focusing on how flexible they may be or how they look.
These practices are based on the Polyvagal theory, which I explain more in depth during consultation calls. But an overall view, this theory suggests we have 3 branches to the nervous system, rather than just two, typically know as "fight or flight vs. relaxed". Or often seen as, "bad vs good". If you'd like to read more in depth before our call, you can review this artical from the National Library of Medicine here.

But in brief, I like to imagine the flow as a wave, going up and down between the Sympathetic (fight or flight, or overactive) and Parasympathetic (freeze or fawn, underactive, or low) branches and with practice, the height of the wave will get smaller, balancing the nervous system in the middle, aka Ventral Vagal State. Where we can hold a state of balance and build resilience to stress.
The therapeutic benefits can include;
-
relief from burnout and chronic stress,
-
rest from constant fatigue and exhaustion,
-
help navigate anxiety and depression,
-
processing emotions, such as grief or feelings that can't be put into words.
-
feeling at peace and renewal of energy
Each flow is designed to stimulate the vagus nerve, open the hips, adrenals, chest, shoulders, facial tension and build muscle groups to strengthen stress resilience.
